Welcome to Shady Oaks Miniature Horse Farm located in Salisbury, North Carolina. Our family has been breeding and raising miniature horses since 1987.
Anthony and Lisa Armstrong live in Salisbury, North Carolina on their farm since the late 1980s. They have 2 grown children, a son who also has built a home on the farm with his wife and they gave us our first granddaughter and grandson. Their daughter is married and lives in upstate New York and just had twin girls.
When my parents were living in Ocala, Florida, my dad saw some nice miniature horses in the area. He kept telling me about them. I finally went to my first miniature horse sale in Mt. Airy, NC. We met so many nice people and ended up buying our first miniature mare, a gorgeous black mare, named Velvet’s Touch. She was a very refined mare that just stole my heart. After that we started going to farms all over the country, visiting some of the largest miniature horse breeders in search of minis. After searching for the best bloodlines, we built up our herd and have maintained about 25 at one time.
My husband and I have owned horses our entire lives. But the minis were a totally different venue that we’d never experienced before. We liked them so much that we thought it would be a great expansion to our farm.
For over 35+ years we have bred and raised numerous miniature horses that have been sold all over the US. Our herd consists of some of the smallest miniature horses to be found. When our children were young, they were both involved with them from hooking them to carts and leading them all around the farm, to leading them behind Barbie cars. Now we have a granddaughter and grandson that help us with the minis in getting them trained.
Shady Oaks is also home to several Quarter Horses, Paints, longhorn cattle, sheep, and chickens. Nothing can compare to the miniature horses though. Minis are just fascinating and make excellent pets and are so cute to watch play. You become mesmerized by them sometimes!
Shady Oaks offers miniature horses for sale at all times, so please give us a call or check the website to see what’s available.
If you need a horse shipped, there are a few reputable shippers that I’ve used over the last few years that can haul your mini directly to your home.
Our farm is located about 5 miles from I-85 and about 20 miles from I-77 and I-40. (central North Carolina) We welcome anyone wanting to see our little horses.
